Collabmonkeys.com or collaboration monkeys dot com is a collection of collaboration experts working on enhancing the collaboration end user experience. The term “collaboration monkey” is an idiom, that is, it is not meant to be taken literally but is used as a comparative phrase. In common vernacular, the term is used as slang to refer to an engineer or architect who works on collaboration or unified communications environment. It can also be used to reference a voice technician who works on PBXs or a developer creating collaboration software to automate a mundane process.
Similar to a grease monkey or mechanic who works on enhancing your car, plane, or boat. The term is not usually intended to be derogatory. Rather, it draws upon the general perception that, due to the nature of the job, a mechanic, and especially an auto mechanic, will have grease marks or oil stains on his or her clothing. While a collaboration monkey will not have oil stains on his or her pants, you may find them with spilled coffee on there shirt after a long night cutting over a PBX. In general, a collaboration monkey is an architect, engineer, or developer integrating customized collaboration solutions while allowing users to easily communicate without the need to understand the technology under the hood.
